TOUT SUR LA LEAGUE CUP

EFL CUP (League Cup / Carabao Cup) 2019-20

Contrairement à la FA Cup qui, chaque saison, rassemble quelque 760 clubs de tous les niveaux du foot anglais et gallois, seuls les 92 clubs professionnels des quatre championnats anglais disputent la League Cup :  les 20 clubs de Premier League et les 72 clubs de The Football League, soit 24 clubs par division X 3 (Championship, League One et League Two). Contrairement à la FA Cup également, les demi-finales sont disputées en deux manches aller-retour et les goals away ne sont pas prépondérants… sauf durant les prolongations de la seconde manche.

Le vainqueur final est qualifié pour l’Europa League à moins qu’il n’obtienne son sésame pour la Champions League. Auquel cas, le billet pour l’Europa League reviendrait au club le mieux classé de Premier League non qualifié pour l’Europe et pas au finaliste perdant de la League Cup. Celui-ci ne devient en aucun cas européen, sauf s’il est classé en ordre utile à l’issue de la Premier League.

Les Européens tels que Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Wolves et Tottenham Hotspur entreront en lice au 3e tour.
